Series Notes
The Pirates begin the second half of the season atop the NL Central with a 48-37 record… The Brewers sit in fourth place with a record of 40-45, eight games back of the Bucs… The Buccos took two of three in Milwaukee back in early June… James McDonald had another stellar performance last Saturday against the Giants, striking out 10 and walking none… McDonald is 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in his last three starts… Zack Greinke makes his third start in a row- he was ejected Saturday after two batters, started Sunday, and now starts on Friday… Greinke is 15-0 at Miller Park over the last two seasons… Kevin Correia is 3-4 with a 5.10 ERA on the road this season… Correia allowed two runs over 5.2 innings against the Brew Crew on June 1st and picked up the win… Marco Estrada is 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA at Miller Park this season… Estrada is 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA over the last three years against the Pirates… A.J. Burnett completed a stellar first half on Sunday with 6.1 strong innings vs. San Francisco… Burnett is 4-2 with a 6.55 ERA (due to his 12-run outing in STL) on the road in 2012… In the last three years, Yovani Gallardo is 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA vs. Pittsburgh… The Brewers had the best winning percentage at home in 2011 (.704); they are 22-21 at Miller Park this season (.512)… Ryan Braun is to the Brewers as Andrew McCutchen is to the Pirates; both lead their teams in batting average, runs, home runs, runs batted in, stolen bases, etc… Milwaukee injuries: Mat Gamel and Alex Gonzalez both have torn ACL’s in their right knees and are out for the season; Jonathan Lucroy (right hand fracture) and Shaun Marcum (right elbow tightness) could be back by late July… The Pirates’ 29-14 home record is the best in the Majors, but they will be on the road for 16 of their first 22 games after the break… The Pirates lead the NL with 52 HR on the road this season.
