Tonight’s episode of Pirates Playback will not be airing until 10:00 pm on ROOT Sports. The AHL All-Star Classic will be on at 7:00.
It also does not look like this week’s Bucco game will re-air. ROOT had been showing the games again on Thursdays, but the Penguins face the Rangers on Thursday this week.
Anyway, the game featured will be from May 3rd, 2012, when the Bucs were in St. Louis for the final game of a three game series. A.J. Burnett was rocked the night before for 12 runs in just two innings. Erik Bedard took the mound for the Bucs and dominated in five innings of work. Despite the short outing, he struck out 11 batters and allowed just two runs. Jared Hughes, Juan Cruz, Jason Grilli, and Joel Hanrahan recorded six more strikeouts the rest of the way; the Bucs finished the day with a whopping 17 punch-outs. Pedro Alvarez continued his hot streak by going 2 for 4 with a homer, two RBI, and two runs scored. The Pirates avoided the sweep with a 6-3 victory, and headed home with a record of 11-14. From our recap:
Star of the Game: Pedro Alvarez. His home run in the sixth gave the Bucs the lead, and really sparked the rest of the offense to pick up 3 more runs. Pedro is really swinging a hot bat lately, and hopefully he’ll carry it over into the coming homestand.
63 days until Opening Day.
