Top prospects Gerrit Cole (black) and Jameson Taillon (gold) started the ballgame on the hill for their respective teams. Both threw two scoreless innings, and most reports from Bradenton said they looked solid on the mound.
Scouting report: Cole and Taillon both throw hard and have good breaking pitches #insidebaseball

The first runs of spring training came when Starling Marte apparently destroyed a baseball for a two-run bomb. The homer came off of Kyle Waldrop and put the Gold team up 2-0. Marte also made an impressive catch in the outfield.
Marte just took Kyle Waldrop to Sarasota, 2-0 Blacks. #Pirates

Lucas May drove in a run to cut the lead in half and Alex Presley tied the game with a sacrifice fly for team Black. The game ended in an anticlimactic 2-2 tie, but the teams only played 5 1/2 innings. Regardless, it was refreshing to see updates from a live baseball game on Twitter.
The Pirates start their Grapefruit League slate with a 1:05 pm matinée against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on 93.7 the Fan.
