The Pirates cruised to a 10-0 victory today in an exhibition matchup to prepare Team Spain for the World Baseball Classic.

Top prospect Gerrit Cole started on the mound and dominated, as he struck out six batters in three innings of work. The club was awful at holding runners on base last season, so it’s promising to see that Cole picked Gabe Suarez off first base. Stolmy Pimentel, Andy Oliver, Erik Cordier, Ryan Reid, and Mike Zagurski also threw scoreless innings for the Bucs.

Led by Gaby Sanchez, the Pirates put 16 hits on the board. Gaby continued to crush the ball, going 3 for 3 with a double, home run, and two RBI. Anderson Hernandez and Jeff Larish also went deep. Darren Ford stole two bases; Felix Pie swiped one as well.

Tomorrow, the Pirates will travel down to Fort Myers, Florida to face the Red Sox for the third time this spring. Jeff Locke will start on the hill for Pittsburgh.
