Five Spring Training Games to Air on ROOT Sports

Some good news here:

ROOT SPORTS™, the exclusive rights holder of Pittsburgh Pirates regional baseball game telecasts, announced today it will broadcast in high definition five Pittsburgh Pirates spring training games prior to the start of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.

To ease the pain of the remaining offseason, a total of five spring training contests will be shown on ROOT Sports.

The games that will be televised are as follows:

Friday, March 1 at Boston 7:00PM
Friday, March 8 vs Baltimore 7:00PM
Saturday, March 9 vs Minnesota  1:00PM
Saturday, March 23  at Boston 1:30PM
Sunday, March 24 vs Baltimore 1:00PM

This is a step up from four games they showed last year. Plus, one of the 2012 games was a Wednesday afternoon game.

This year, however, will consist of weekend ballgames. Two Fridays are included, but they are night games. In addition, ROOT will show two Saturdays and a Sunday, all in the afternoon.

ROOT’s broadcasts will be the real deal, as they’ll also feature pregame and postgame shows. Other coverage, such as Inside Pirates Baseball and Pirates Playback, will be televised in March as well. This will definitely help the offseason seem a little shorter.

61 days until Opening Day.
