He had spoken with Frank Coonelly at PirateFest, and learned that the Pirates would be getting a new logo in 2014.
That information has been confirmed, and Bob Cohn of the Trib writes that the club will host four focus groups to determine the new logo. The groups are as follows: season ticket holders, corporate partners, suite holders and random fans.
Keep in mind that the Bucs are not tampering with the classic Pirates ‘P’. We’ve noticed a lot of criticism recently for the club introducing a new logo, mostly since fans believed they were ditching the P. It’ll be this buccaneer logo that’s getting the boot:
Here’s what Pirates executive vice-president and chief marketing director Lou DePaoli said about the P:
“When people see the gold ‘P,’ they know it stands for Pirates. It’s something you don’t mess with.”
