Saturday Stat Sheet Cutch

- Worried about Andrew McCutchen‘s slow start? Don’t be. He’s started slow in the past (see 2011 and 2013), and was hitting .238 on May 1st last year. Walks have helped his on-base percentage, but his current .194 average and .661 OPS don’t look so hot right now. It’s early though, and I’m sure Cutch will catch fire eventually. Discomfort in his left ankle, forcing him to leave late in Friday’s game, is more worrisome… Hopefully he’s good to go for tonight.

- Speaking of McCutchen’s walks: he’s collected 11 BB so far, putting him well on pace to shatter Ralph Kiner‘s single season Pirate walk record of 137. His current walk rate of 23.4% leads the National League.

- Francisco Liriano produced 23 whiffs last night on 95 pitches; he’s leading the league in swinging strike percentage this season at 17.8%.

- The Bucs have already saved 5 runs with their defense in 2014, according to FanGraphs.

- Two homers for Travis Snider this week… Almost halfway to his 2013 total.

- Saturday night’s starter, Edinson Volquez, owns a 5.67 ERA in seven career starts at Miller Park. He looks to build on his strong start last Sunday against St. Louis, when he gave up one run on three hits over 5.2 innings.

- Going for the Brew Crew is Yovani Gallardo, who’s fared quite well against the Bucs in his career: 11-4, 2.59 ERA, 9.8 K/9. He’s yet to allow a run in two outings this season…

- Gregory Polanco went 2-for-4 on Friday to continue his early season domination of Triple-A pitching… He’s hitting .441/.486/.647 thus far.

- Stolmy Pimentel hasn’t pitched since April 2nd… Check out the recent Shark Tank pitch counts right here.
