McCutchen Wins MLB 13 The Show Cover Vote

It’s official: Andrew McCutchen will be on the cover of MLB 13 The Show.

Cutch comes out on top after a long week of voting on Twitter and Facebook. He beat out AL MVP Miguel Cabrera, NL MVP Buster Posey, Matt Kemp, Bryce Harper, CC Sabathia, and Ryan Braun.

It’s quite impressive to see the Pirates fanbase outvote the fans of much larger markets, such as New York and Los Angeles. It’s truly amazing to see this town get behind its players; even the Penguins and Steelers helped out:

Tons of athletes and celebrities helped Cutch out, including Adrian Peterson, Dick Vitale, John Calipari, and Mark Cuban. Brian from Raise the Jolly Roger wrote about this on Wednesday.

To collect votes and reward fans for their dedication, McCutchen gave away numerous items, ranging from an autographed jersey (with a blood stain) to a PlayStation 3.

It will be very cool to see the Bucs’ young superstar gracing the cover of this year’s game. Note that MLB 13 The Show is compatible with PS3, wheras MLB 2K13 is for Xbox 360. Therefore, Xbox gamers will not see Cutch on their cover. Regardless, it’s good for the Pirates to get some publicity.

Congrats to Cutch. Go Bucs.

Pirates sign Mike Zagurski

The Pirates announced this morning that they have signed minor league free agent Mike Zagurski. The deal includes an invite to spring training.

Zagurski, a 29 year old lefty reliever, has never posted an ERA below 5.40 in the big leagues. He’s 1-0 with a 6.13 ERA in 83 career MLB games with the Phillies and Diamondbacks.

We found this while searching for Zagurski:

That picture was associated with the following caption:
“My apologies for bringing up Mike Zagurski, but it seemed fitting. (No, he is no longer a Diamondback, hopefully it stays that way).” Yeah…

Go Bucs
