Watch: Gregory Polanco beats out grounder to second baseman

Last night, Baseball America writer Ben Badler tweeted this from the Dominican League finals:

I just found some footage of the game, so you can see it for yourself:

No clue how he beats this out. It wasn’t totally routine – the high chop bought him some time – but Emilio Bonifacio fielded it cleanly and released it quickly. He just flew down the line.

As Tim Williams described in Pirates Prospects Guide (which I highly recommend), Polanco’s speed comes from his long legs. He’s a 6’4″ giant, and you can imagine how much ground he covers on defense. An outfield of Starling MarteAndrew McCutchenGregory Polanco is going to be fun to watch.

El Coffee and the Escogido squad aren’t doing so great in the finals right now, but he did crush another home run tonight:
