I just found some footage of the game, so you can see it for yourself:
No clue how he beats this out. It wasn’t totally routine – the high chop bought him some time – but Emilio Bonifacio fielded it cleanly and released it quickly. He just flew down the line.
As Tim Williams described in Pirates Prospects Guide (which I highly recommend), Polanco’s speed comes from his long legs. He’s a 6’4″ giant, and you can imagine how much ground he covers on defense. An outfield of Starling Marte – Andrew McCutchen – Gregory Polanco is going to be fun to watch.
